To say Neil Diamond was fabulous, marvelous, or wonderful would be an understatement. His voice rang loud and clear and true for each and every song during this two-hour concert. It started about 8:20 p.m. Neil Diamond came out and began in the middle of Holly Holy, and then sang the whole song. That was neat and I loved the first few songs with Neil playing the guitar.
My seats were fabulous and close enough for me to see him without the aid of two large video screens at the Verizon Center on August 5, 2008. Neil made us all laugh when he turned said to the crowd sitting behind the stage that somebody told him those people actually paid money for those seats, lol, and sang Play Me to them. After he did a bunch of wonderful oldies including Cherry Cherry, he settled down on my side of the stage and sang his new songs, beginning with Home Before Dark. After he finished the first song off his new CD, the platform he was sitting on slid towards the other side of the house, where he sang Pretty Amazing Grace. Neil was very good about singing to everybody. Crunchy Granola Suite and You Don't Bring me Flowers were on the menu as well. As we hoped Neil would do in the Nation's capital, he sang America while we in the audience got to be his back-up singers by singing "Today" as he did the "My Country Tis of Thee" part--that was neat. And, anybody that's been to one of Neil's concerts knows the audience participation in Sweet Caroline. We all sang along to Song Sung Blue too! ;-)
The song I wound up humming first thing this morning was Love on the Rocks. Neil did a remarkable job on that song, as on all the others. Go see him if you get the chance.
