Neil’s concert at Fenway Park, Boston,MA---WOW!
Current mood: thankful
Category: Music
Hello again, my fellow Diamondheads!!!
I ventured to Beantown last weekend to take in another Neil's concert at Fenway park. I've seen Neil and the band more than twenty times over the years but this was a first at an outdoor venue. It was also my first visit to the storied ball field, what a beautiful old stadium it is. If an outdoor facility can feel intimate this was as close as it gets other than the Greek Theather in LA.
Neil opened the show with Sweet Caroline for all the Red Sox's fans and the place was rockin' from the get go.Neil was pumped for sure and the band did their usual outstanding job. The show was great in spite of Neil's voice getting a little raspy maybe because of the night air.The crowd, 37,000+, was a real mix of age groups and very enthusiastic. Neil has a whole legion of twenty something females that are in love with him. A testament to his enduring music and his energetic performances, no body can sell a song like Diamond.
I arrived on Thrusday evening having driven from New Jersey to Boston and was hosted for the weekend by one of my closest friends and fellow Golf Professional, Mike Martino. With Mike's help we set up a round of golf for myself and my three Diamondville residents, King Errisson, Doug Rhone and John Fumo at the beautiful Thorny Lea Golf Club in Brockton, Ma. It was a beautiful day, a great old golf course and I could not have had better company. King won the money on the day as we played a round robin and switched partners every six holes. The Touriods are in deed a terrific group of genuine people and we had an enjoyable day even if it was adventurous getting back to the hotel. Mike and I joined King for dinner on Friday night and had to do the surf and turf thing, after all this is Boston and Maine lobster for dinner isn't an option, It's the only thing!
Saturday, I visited with a student of mine from 35 years ago, who is now 84 years young, and still shooting his age or better on the golf course. It was a treat reliving my times at the Dunes Club in Myrtle Beach, SC. back in the early 70's. Dixon Sykes was a caring influence for a young Golf Professional and worked hard on my behalf to get me my first Head Golf Professional job.I'll always be indebted to him and was glad to have the opportunity to share that with him one more time.
So then it was concert time at Fenway on a beautiful evening. The place was electric, as was the show. A must see show for even the luke warm Neil fans. It was Mike's first live concert experience and he was duley "Diamondized", although having been my friend for years he was no stranger to Neil's music and was already a fan. The weekend concluded with an evening on the town with King and Doug for some after show libation, we had some real laughs.John Fumo was busy with old friends from the Boston area so only joined us for golf on Friday. It was a pleasure seeing my student /friends again and enjoying their beautiful noise at Fenway. As Neil said on the Stages Cd's of the band " They are great musicians and even better people". I could not agree more, they are a modest group of caring people. Neil couldn't have a better group of ambassadors than NDRRT. It has been my priviledge to get to know many of them and the only downer is that Doug is a Dallas Cowboy fan. I being a Giants fan, think we'll have some bets this fall when the "Boys meet the G-men". I'm not to proud to take the points Doug!
It's been an unbelievable three weeks in Philly, New York and Boston., thank you muszoids for your friendship and all that you have brought to my life over the years. You have played the sound track of my life for over 40 years and improved the quality of my life immensly.I can't imagine my life without your Beautiful Noise in it! Thank You! Thank You!
