Neil's Help For Oak Island Officially Begins

Saturday, March 7th, Neil Diamond's generous offering officially began making it's way to the people of Oak Island and Double Bayou. Registration for funds to rebuild and/or repair the homes of those who lost their primary residence took place. Registrars are required to show proof of homestead from the county tax office. This proves that the applicant owns the property and that it is the home in which they live in. If the information was not available at the time of registration the applicants were allowed to take the registration to be returned later with the needed proof.
Regretfully, I was unable to be there to help this time. Still having to take care of some final repairs to damage that Ike left for me but a minor inconvenience compared to those on the other side of the bay from my home. It was reported to me that a large turnout was to be expected.
I hope that all of my friends that were there will add comments to this report to let everyone know how the day went.
Many blessings to Neil Diamond for his help. It's a Godsend to the wonderful people of Oak Island and Double Bayou.
UPDATE 3/21/09: Sorry I haven't given any updates for a while. The past few weeks have been very hectic. My son's wedding, preparing for the upcoming birth of a new grandchild, still trying to get the new fence up after Ike tore the old one down and laid up with the flu for a week and a half.

Hope it all comes together for you - flu is not fun. I was at the registration - looked like a pretty steady stream of my neighbors hoping to get some relief with housing costs. We were told to expect a letter in the mail - haven't received one yet, don't know if that is good or bad, but still hoping for the best. My husband and I are doing what we can to rebuild - piling should be set this week. After that, my husband and family and friends will begin framing. Small baby steps.
