My admiration for Neil and his music began in college with, “Girl, You’ll be a Woman Soon.” And, I became one not long thereafter. “Red, Red Wine” followed in the charts and in my life, in moderate quantities! Hot August Night was the first of seven ND concerts I attended prior to last night's. He’s the only performer I’ve seen multiple times who consistently gives his all to his fans during a show. The same goes for his excellent, long-time band members/singers. I missed not hearing Red, Red Wine, a classic Diamond hit, in Ft. Lauderdale. But, I delighted in hearing many other Hot August Night tour songs, and later hits, that sounded as good as the first time. And, as usual, Neil’s new songs are also becoming my favorites.
Although younger folks were present, I noticed a more seasoned (but lively) crowd at last night’s Ft. Lauderdale performance—middle aged and up. I'm in my 50s, and I realized the mature audience consisted mainly of those of us who have grown up with our music idol, Neil—a man singing some songs that now include lyrics with an intimate spiritual quality that touched us deeply. Like his many concerts that have gone before, Neil left us standing, dancing, applauding, and calling for just one more song. Till next time, God Bless you, Neil, and your backup folks!
